What is an LED LCD TV?
The screen of a standard has LCD TV needs backlight to show the image. This standard LCD TV is using a limited number of lamps that are referred to as CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp).
In an LED LCD TV this backlight is created by a larger number of small LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). There are 2 types of LED LCD TV's:
- Edge lit LED LCD
- LED matrix backlight LCD
Edge lit LED LCD
In "Edge lit LED LCD", the LEDs are placed on the outer edge of the TV and they project their light to the inside without adding thickness to the screen, so therefore it's possible to make TV's less than 3 inches thick.
LED matrix backlight LCD
In "LED LCD backlight matrix" the LED's are behind the whole screen. This Full LED Backlight technology is much more efficient as for example Ambilight. For example, a movie where on the right of the screen a fire is shown and on the left side a dark wood, the colors on the right side are displayed higher/brighter/lighter and on the left lower/darker. Because of this technique the contrast between the two sides are higher and better.
What are the advantages of an LED LCD TV?
LED is the technology of the future for LCD TV. The advantage of using LEDs is that they occupy very little space, produce not much heat, giving a color display superior image quality and generate many light with little energy. LED technology makes LED LCD TV's durable equipment with up to 30% less power consumption than standard LCD TVs.
